The Philadelphia Flyers have reached an affiliation agreement with the Greenville Road Warriors of the ECHL for the 2013-14 season, Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren announced Thursday.
Under the agreement, the Flyers will be able to assign players to Greenville who are under contract either to the Flyers or to their American Hockey League affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms. Players under ECHL contracts with Greenville can be called up to Adirondack as opportunities present themselves.
The Flyers were affiliated with Greenville during the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons. Current members of the Flyers organization who have spent time with the Road Warriors include defensemen Marc-Andre Bourdon (2010-11), Cullen Eddy (2010-2012) and Steven Delisle (2012-13).
It was definitely emotional. I really appreciated the fans. It was a cool feeling and it felt special and the ovation there at the start and then you kind of feel funny out there standing by yourself. Thinking back, I was saying just a bit ago, you think back just trying to make the NHL and then you kind of reflect on all the years being able to play for a great organization here in Calgary and all the fun I've had so far in my career. I feel very fortunate and blessed.
