Penguins sign two goalies to entry-level contracts
The Penguins on Wednesday announced the signings of goaltenders Tristan Jarry and Matthew Murray to three-year, entry-level contracts.

The Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday announced the signings of goaltenders Tristan Jarry and Matthew Murray each to a three-year, entry-level contract.

In addition, the team has named Mike Buckley its goalie development coach.

Jarry, 18, was the Penguins' top pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, selected in the second round (No. 44). He played the 2012-13 season for the Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League, posting an 18-7-0 record in 27 games, with league-best totals in goals-against average (1.61) and save percentage (.936). His six shutouts were tied for fourth in the WHL.

During the 2011-12 season, Jarry went 8-2-1 in 14 regular-season games then helped the Oil Kings win the WHL playoff championship and earn a berth in the Memorial Cup tournament.

Murray, 19, was drafted in the third round (No. 83) in 2012 and has played the past three seasons for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds of the Ontario Hockey League. He had career highs across the board for the Greyhounds in 2012-13, with 26 wins, a 3.67 GAA and .894 save percentage in 53 regular-season games. He led his team to the OHL playoffs, where he had a .910 save percentage in six games.

Murray played for Canada at the 2011 IIHF World Under-18 Championship, backstopping his team to a bronze medal while being named one of Canada's top three players of the tournament.

Buckley, 36, will be responsible for working with and assisting in the development of goalie prospects and players throughout the Penguins' organization.

A native of Haverhill, Mass., Buckley spent the 2012-13 season as goaltending coach at the University of New Hampshire, where he helped the Wildcats advance to the second round of the NCAA tournament. He worked as a goaltending coach for USA Hockey.

Buckley served five years as the goaltending coach at his alma mater, the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, from 2007-12. During that period he served as a goalie consultant for the Columbus Blue Jackets (2010-12) and Dynamo Minsk of the Kontinental Hockey League.

Quote of the Day

We're buyers. We're committed to winning. That's what [owner Vinnie Viola] has said all along and what we've said all along. We want to win. We want to win a championship. We're putting the pieces together, step by step, and we're hopeful that Jaromir can lead these young guys to the promised land. It's a win-win for us.
