Anaheim Ducks D Sheldon Souray out 4-6 months after tearing ligament in right wrist

ANAHEIM, Calif. - Anaheim Ducks defenceman Sheldon Souray will be out four to six months after undergoing surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right wrist.

The Ducks announced Souray's absence Tuesday.

The 37-year-old defenceman was hurt while working out off the ice on July 17, the team says. He had surgery July 25 in Los Angeles, and will be out at least four months from the time of the surgery.

Souray made a solid debut with the Ducks last fall, getting seven goals and 10 assists with a plus-19 rating as a key power-play contributor for the Pacific Division champions. Souray signed a three-year contract with Anaheim last summer.

Souray's lengthy absence is a blow to the Ducks, who also signed former Edmonton defenceman Mark Fistric.

Quote of the Day

I don’t know if it was more relief for me that [Stamkos] scored or the power play scored. It was a whole compilation of Alka Seltzer.
