Jordan Boyd, a prospect with the Acadie-Bathurst Titan of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, collapsed on ice during the team's training camp Monday morning and was later pronounced dead at a New Brunswick hospital. He was 16.
The team released the following statement Monday afternoon via its Facebook page:
"It is with deep regret that the Acadie-Bathurst Titan announces the death of one of its young prospects, Jordan Boyd. The 16 year-old was skating during an individual training session when he suffered a discomfort and collapsed on the ice. The Acadie-Bathurst Titan medical team tried to revive him several times. The young player was transported to hospital where his death was confirmed by a doctor."
The team went on to say that Boyd, a fourth-round pick in the 2013 QMJHL entry draft, had undergone a complete medical evaluation prior to training camp that did not indicate any issues, and that it is waiting for an autopsy to determine the cause of his death.
