Streit getting one more shot at Swiss Olympic roster

Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Mark Streit will be provided with an opportunity to play in his third Olympics when he joins 47 other players at Switzerland's evaluation camp.

Streit, 35, first represented Switzerland at the Olympics in 2006 and was invited back in 2010. He also has played for Switzerland 12 times in the IIHF World Championships. Streit was captain of the New York Islanders the past two seasons before joining the Flyers this summer.

Anaheim Ducks goalie Jonas Hiller was one of six netminders invited to the camp. Among those also invited is Reto Berra of the Calgary Flames, as well former NHL goalie Martin Gerber.

Streit will be joined by four other NHL defensemen: Rafael Diaz (Montreal Canadiens), Roman Josi (Nashville Predators), Luca Sbisa (Anaheim Ducks) and Yannick Weber (Vancouver Canucks).

Nino Niederreiter, recently acquired by the Minnesota Wild from the Islanders, will receive his first chance to compete for his country at the Olympics. The 20-year-old forward led Switzerland with five goals at the 2013 World Championship, helping the Swiss earn a silver medal – their first World Championship medal in 60 years.

Joining him at the camp will be Calgary Flames forward Sven Baertschi and Damien Brunner, who played for the Detroit Red Wings last season.

Switzerland will play in Group C at the 2014 Olympics hockey tournament, along with Czech Republic, Latvia and Sweden.
