Canucks announce Gulutzan, Sullivan as assistants
Vancouver Canucks coach John Tortorella on Tuesday confirmed Glen Gulutzan and Mike Sullivan will be assistants on his staff.

Vancouver Canucks coach John Tortorella on Tuesday confirmed Glen Gulutzan and Mike Sullivan will be assistants on his staff.

Tortorella made the announcement at the team's summer summit for fans.

Gulutzan was fired as Dallas Stars coach May 14 after going 64-57-9 in two seasons.

"He brings youth, he brings the desire," Tortorella said of Gulutzan, 41. "He's going to be one [heck] of a coach in this League -- as a head coach -- and we are very fortunate to have him on our staff."

Sullivan was an assistant under Tortorella with the New York Rangers for the past four seasons. Sullivan previously was coach of the Boston Bruins.

"He's just such a good teacher," Tortorella said. "I think that's a very important part of the game, is the teaching part of it."

Darryl Williams (video) and Roland Melanson (goaltending) will complete the staff, Tortorella said.

"I'm really excited about the staff and how we think, how we think the game and how we're going to go about the business," Tortorella said.

Quote of the Day

I think I'm lucky to be here and you definitely don't take very many things for granted, if you take anything for granted. I definitely put my family and my wife and my close family in perspective, that they're the most important thing in the world. I want to do whatever I can to play hockey, but like I said, under the right circumstances.
