The Washington Capitals on Monday announced the re-signing of forward Nicolas Deschamps to a one-year, two-way contract.

Deschamps, 23, recorded 10 goals, 23 points and 28 penalty minutes in 66 games with Hershey and Toronto last season in the American Hockey League. The Lasalle, Quebec, native finished the season with three goals and seven points in 16 games with Hershey after being acquired from Toronto for Kevin Marshall on Mar. 14.

The 6-foot-1, 182-pound left wing was chosen by Anaheim in the second round (No. 35) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. He began his junior career with the Chicoutimi Sagueneens and won the Michel Bergeron Trophy as the QMJHL’s offensive rookie of the year and was named to the QMJHL and CHL All-Rookie Teams.

— Arizona Coyotes director of amateur scouting Tim Bernhardt regarding the coincidence that six of the organization's top prospects are sons of former NHL players
