Muller told Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer that Staal, who was injured May 16 while playing for Canada in the 2013 World Championship, is training with his brothers in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

The coach said Ward, who was injured in an NHL game March 3, is "raring to go."

Staal sustained a third-degree sprain of the medial collateral ligament in his right knee after taking a knee-on-knee hit from Sweden defenseman Alexander Edler of the Vancouver Canucks.

In June, Staal told the newspaper it was "a slower process than I thought and hoped" but said he would be ready for training camp in September.

The Hurricanes captain finished sixth in the NHL in scoring with 53 points (18 goals) last season.

Ward sprained the medial collateral ligament in his left knee playing against the Florida Panthers. He played 17 games last season, going 9-6-1 with a 2.84 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage.
