Devils' Pete DeBoer completes staff with assistant Mike Foligno; New Jersey signs C Josefson

NEWARK, N.J. - Mike Foligno has joined the New Jersey Devils as an assistant coach.

General manager Lou Lamoriello announced the appointment to Pete DeBoer's staff Friday. Foligno replaces Matt Shaw, who left to become head coach of Dubuque in the USHL.

Foligno spent last season as an assistant coach with the Chicago Wolves in the AHL. He had been an assistant with Anaheim, Colorado and Toronto in the NHL. The 54-year-old has head coaching experience with the Sudbury Wolves of the OHL and Colorado's AHL affiliate in Hershey.

Foligno, who played 15 seasons in the NHL with Detroit, Buffalo, Toronto and Florida, began his professional coaching career with St. John's in the AHL in 1995-96.

Quote of the Day

The groove of being behind a bench is going to be interesting at first, but thank God we have a few exhibition games to get rid of those cobwebs. Overall the excitement of it all and the freshness and coming back refreshed, all those things are going to be assets. If [the players] come ready to give their best effort in practice and games, good things are going to happen. I'm always looking for results. It's not always on the scoreboard. It's winning and building something.

— Bryan Trottier on making his return to coaching as an assistant with the Sabres
