Jets sign defenceman Postma to two-year deal worth $1.425 million

WINNIPEG - The Winnipeg Jets have signed defenceman Paul Postma on a new two-year contract worth US$1.425 million.

Postma, 24, played in 34 games with the Jets during the 2012-13 season. The native of Red Deer, Alta., recorded nine points (four goals, five assists) and six penalty minutes.

He has played in 38 career NHL games with the Atlanta/Winnipeg franchise.

He was originally drafted by the Thrashers in the seventh round, 205th overall, in the 2007 NHL draft.

Quote of the Day

I think the thing about him, No. 1, he's a competitive guy. We have no issues as far as him fitting in here with this group. No question he's going to be hungry. I think whenever you look at your back end, it's a mix-type thing, and I think [there are] things he can bring to us. He's very mobile, and even though he's not big (6 feet, 201 pounds), he certainly competes. He's a smart player.
