Defenseman Postma re-signs with Winnipeg
The Jets avoided going to a salary arbitration hearing with defenseman Paul Postma by agreeing to terms on a two-year contract extension.

The Winnipeg Jets avoided going to a salary arbitration hearing with defenseman Paul Postma on Friday by agreeing to terms on a two-year contract extension worth $1.425 million with the 24-year-old.

Postma and the Jets were scheduled to meet in a salary arbitration hearing on July 30.

Postma appeared in 34 games for the Jets in 2012-13 and had nine points on four goals and five assists. He has played in 38 career NHL games for the franchise. He was drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers in the seventh round (No. 205) of the 2007 NHL Draft.

The Jets also announced they agreed to terms with goaltenders Michael Hutchinson and Eddie Pasquale, each on a one-year, two-way contract.

Hutchinson will receive $600,000 at the NHL level, and Pasquale $575,000 at the NHL level.

Hutchinson, 23, played 30 games with the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League last season, with a 13-13-3 record, 2.30 goals-against average and .914 save percentage.

He was chosen by the Boston Bruins in the third round (No. 77) in the 2008 NHL Draft.

Pasquale, 22, played 43 games last season with the St. John’s IceCaps, with a 15-23-4 record, 2.79 goals-against average and .907 save percentage.

He was selected by the Atlanta Thrashers in the fourth round (No. 117) in the 2009 NHL Draft.
