Hurricanes top pick Lindholm sustains shoulder injury
Carolina general manager Jim Rutherford said Friday that 2013 first-round pick Elias Lindholm will be sidelined the remainder of the team's development camp.

Carolina Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford said Friday that 2013 first-round pick Elias Lindholm will be sidelined the remainder of the team's development camp this week with a minor shoulder injury.

Rutherford told Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer that Lindholm, the No. 5 choice by the Hurricanes on June 30 at the NHL Draft, sustained his shoulder injury during a drill Thursday evening.

"He'll be OK. It's not serious," Rutherford said. "We will hold him off (ice) the rest of the week, but he should be able to return to his normal workouts in a week to 10 days. We're being cautious with it."

Michael Smith, who writes for Carolina's website, reported Lindholm was hit along the boards during the drill and "gingerly got up wincing." At that time, Hurricanes assistant coach John MacLean motioned him off the ice at PNC Arena. Lindholm was taken to a doctor for further evaluation.

Rutherford told Alexander that Lindholm is expected to participate in the Traverse City Prospects Tournament in Traverse City, Mich. The eight-team tournament begins Sept. 5.
