Jankowski, Leipsic added to Canada junior camp
Forwards Mark Jankowski (Calgary Flames) and Brendan Leipsic (Nashville Predators) have been added to Hockey Canada's roster for next month's national junior team development camp.

Forwards Mark Jankowski and Brendan Leipsic have been added to Hockey Canada's roster for next month's national junior team development camp.

The camp is the first step in Canada picking its team for the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship, which will be held Dec. 26 to Jan. 5, 2014 in Malmo, Sweden.

Jankowski, a 6-foot-3, 168-pound center taken by the Calgary Flames with the 21st pick of the 2012 NHL Draft, had seven goals and 11 assists in 34 games as a freshman at Providence College last season.

Leipsic, a left wing with the Portland Winterhawks, led the Western Hockey League with 49 goals last season and tied for the league lead with 120 points in 68 games. The 5-9, 168-pound left wing was a 2012 third-round pick of the Nashville Predators.

The pair will take part in all of Canada's camp, which will be held Aug. 4-10. The first two days will take place in Brossard, Quebec, and then the team will travel to Lake Placid, N.Y., where it will take part in exhibition games against the United States, Sweden and Finland.

In addition, Hockey Canada announced forwards Jonathan Drouin and Nathan MacKinnon, along with defensemen Griffin Reinhart and Morgan Rielly, will not travel with the team to Lake Placid and only skate in the first two days of camp in Quebec. All four played on Canada's team that finished fourth in Russia at the 2013 WJC.

The 37 players taking part in camp represent 20 NHL teams, including four Toronto Maple Leafs prospects -- Rielly, defenseman Matthew Finn and forwards Frederik Gauthier and Ryan Rupert. The Winnipeg Jets (goalie Eric Comrie, defenseman Joshua Morrissey, forward Nicolas Petan), New York Islanders (Reinhart, defensemen Ryan Pulock and Adam Pelech) and Calgary Flames (Jankowski, forwards Sean Monahan and Emile Poirier) each will have three prospects taking part.

In addition, centers Sam Reinhart from the Kootenay Ice of the Western Hockey League and Connor McDavid from the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League were invited to the camp. Reinhart is a candidate to be the first pick of the 2014 NHL Draft, while McDavid is expected to go No. 1 at the 2015 NHL Draft.
