Ducks sign defenseman Grant to one-year deal
The Anaheim Ducks added to their depth on defense Wednesday by signing defenseman Alex Grant to a one-year contract.

The Anaheim Ducks added to their depth on defense Wednesday by signing defenseman Alex Grant to a one-year contract.

Grant, 24, appeared in 46 games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League in 2012-13, posting four goals, 20 points and 73 penalty minutes. He helped lead Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to the Eastern Conference Final in the Calder Cup Playoffs, collecting two goals and four points with 27 PIMs in 13 games.

Grant was acquired by Anaheim from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for left wing Harry Zolnierczyk on June 24, 2013.

Selected by Pittsburgh in the fourth round (No. 118) of the 2007 NHL Draft, Grant has totals of 17 goals and 62 points with a plus-8 rating and 174 PIMs in 125 career AHL games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. He ranked third among AHL rookies and tied for fourth among league defensemen in power-play points (27) in 2011-12, setting career highs in goals (10), assists (27), points (37) and appearances (61).
