Senators re-sign Borowiecki to two-year contract
The Ottawa Senators announced Wednesday they have re-signed defenseman Mark Borowiecki to a two-year contract.

The Ottawa Senators announced Wednesday they have re-signed defenseman Mark Borowiecki to a two-year contract.

It's a two-way contract for the 2013-14 season and a one-way contract for the 2014-15 season.

Borowiecki, 23, played in six games with the Senators in 2012-13, recording 18 penalty minutes and a plus-1 rating. The Ottawa native had four goals, 10 assists, 157 penalty minutes and a plus-21 rating in 53 games with the American Hockey League’s Binghamton Senators. He served as captain from April 8 through the remainder of the regular season and playoffs.

"I'm really happy," Borowiecki told the Senators website. "I can't really say how happy I am. You know, at this point in my career this is the place I want to be and I want to be a part of this organization and it's really nice to get that deal done."

A fifth-round pick (No. 139) of the Senators in the 2008 NHL Draft, Borowiecki has been held scoreless in eight career NHL games. He has nine goals, 27 assists and 290 penalty minutes in 135 AHL regular-season games with Binghamton. He was a member of the B-Sens team that won the Calder Cup in 2011.

Borowiecki is the first Ottawa native drafted by the Senators.
