Hurricanes sign Riley Nash to two-year contract
The Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday announced they have signed center Riley Nash to a two-year, two-way contract.

The deal will pay Nash $550,000 on the NHL level or $135,000 on the American Hockey League level, with a guarantee of $150,000 in 2013-14. It will pay him $600,000 on the NHL level and $150,000 on the AHL level, with a guarantee of at least $200,000 in 2014-15.

Nash, 24, completed his third full professional season and second in the NHL in 2012-13, establishing NHL career highs in games played (32), goals (four), assists (five) and points (nine), averaging 12:48 of ice time per game.

The Consort, Alberta, native scored his first career NHL goal and added a pair of assists for his first NHL multipoint game against the Florida Panthers on March 2, and had his first NHL multigoal game against the Washington Capitals on March 12.

The 6-foot-1, 191-pound forward played 51 games in the American Hockey League with the Charlotte Checkers, totaling 13 goals and 37 points and ranking second on the team in plus/minus (plus-14) and fourth in assists (24). His assists and points marked AHL career-highs, playing in 51 games.

Nash was a first-round pick (No. 21) of the Edmonton Oilers in the 2007 NHL Draft.
