G Kevin Poulin accepts one-year, two-way qualifying offer from Islanders

UNIONDALE, N.Y. - New York Islanders goalie Kevin Poulin has accepted the team's one-year, two-way qualifying offer.

The 23-year-old Poulin, who would earn $1.3 million in the deal announced Monday, played in five games last season with the Islanders after being recalled from Bridgeport of the AHL on Feb. 23. He went 1-3 with a 3.02 goals-against average and .893 save percentage.

In 21 career games with the Islanders, Poulin is 7-9-1 with a 2.76 goals-against average and .912 save percentage. Poulin made his NHL playoff debut this past season, appearing in two games of New York's first-round series against Pittsburgh. He had a 1.15 GAA and .933 save percentage in those games.

Poulin, a fifth-round pick by the Islanders in the 2008 draft, will be competing to be the backup to recently re-signed veteran Evgeni Nabokov.

Quote of the Day

When somebody goes out and is there to score goals, but is also there to make some big hits, fight, do all of those things, and he has a great mustache, it was great to see him get that hit and get everybody going.
