Capitals sign Strachan, two others to one-year deals
The Washington Capitals on Monday agreed on one-year, two-way contracts with three players, most notable among them defenseman Tyson Strachan.

The Washington Capitals on Monday agreed on one-year, two-way contracts with three players, most notable among them defenseman Tyson Strachan.

Strachan, 28, played in 38 games with the Florida Panthers last season, compiling four assists and 40 penalty minutes. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound blueliner has recorded one goal, 13 points and 127 penalty minutes in 120 career NHL games with Florida and the St. Louis Blues.

The Capitals also signed right wing Matt Watkins and goaltender David Leggio.

Watkins, 26, registered 11 goals, 30 points and 43 penalty minutes in 68 games with Bridgeport of the American Hockey League in 2012-13. He appeared in one NHL game with the Phoenix Coyotes during the 2011-12 season.

Leggio, 28, compiled a 38-24-1 record with a 2.56 goals-against average, a .924 save percentage and four shutouts in 64 games last season with Rochester of the AHL. He led the league in wins and games played, and was tied for fourth in save percentage. Leggio set career-best marks last season in games played, wins, goals-against average, save percentage and shutouts.
