Flyers extend qualifying offer to four players
The Flyers have issued qualifying offers to four restricted free agents: Erik Gustafsson, Oliver Lauridsen, Brandon Manning and Eric Wellwood.

The Philadelphia Flyers announced Wednesday that they have issued qualifying offers to four restricted free agents: defensemen Erik Gustafsson, Oliver Lauridsen and Brandon Manning, and forward Eric Wellwood. The Flyers will retain negotiating rights with the players as a result of the qualifying offers.

After returning from injury, Gustafsson, 24, had three goals, five assists, eight points, and a minus-1 rating in 27 games with the Flyers in 2012-13.

Lauridsen made his NHL debut in 2012-13, totaling two goals, an assist and 34 penalty minutes in 15 games.

In six games with Philadelphia in 2012-13, Manning, 23, had two assists and a plus-4 rating.

Wellwood started the 2012-13 season with the Flyers but was sent to the team's American Hockey League affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms, after two games. He had 17 points in 58 AHL games, but his season ended April 7 when he sliced his Achilles tendon. He had five goals, four assists and a plus-12 rating in 24 NHL games with the Flyers in 2011-12.

Philadelphia did not issue a qualifying offer to defenseman Blake Kessel and forward Mitch Wahl, allowing each to become an unrestricted free agent.

Quote of the Day

I've never seen anything like that. The great thing is I don't know how many times guys bailed me out where they had to score to keep it alive and they did every time. It was amazing. It's not the way we draw it up, to go 20 rounds here, but obviously it's a big win.
