The most notable of the three players not to receive an offer was 24-year-old defenseman Keaton Ellerby, who was acquired from the Florida Panthers in February when injuries struck the Kings' defense corps. Ellerby, the 10th player taken in the 2007 NHL Draft, had three assists and was plus-5 in 35 games.
The Kings could re-sign him when free agency begins Friday.
It's a tribute to him, and everything he's done and deserved is coming to fruition tonight with his jersey in the rafters. He's going to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer. And I said today, if he's not, take my stuff out. If he doesn't deserve to be in there first ballot, no one does. Except for (Wayne) Gretzky, I guess.
