Lightning acquire rights to Olson from Blue Jackets
Tampa Bay Lightning acquire rights to Drew Olson from Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday traded the rights to defenseman Drew Olson to the Tampa Bay Lightning for future considerations.

Olson, a 2008 fourth-round pick, spent the past four seasons at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. In 2012-13, the 5-foot-11, 215-pound blueliner had one goal and six assists.

In four seasons, he had three goals and 18 assists in 146 games.

He also got into five American Hockey League games with the Peoria Rivermen, totaling one assist and a minus-2 rating.

Quote of the Day

The groove of being behind a bench is going to be interesting at first, but thank God we have a few exhibition games to get rid of those cobwebs. Overall the excitement of it all and the freshness and coming back refreshed, all those things are going to be assets. If [the players] come ready to give their best effort in practice and games, good things are going to happen. I'm always looking for results. It's not always on the scoreboard. It's winning and building something.

— Bryan Trottier on making his return to coaching as an assistant with the Sabres
