The Calgary Flames acquired the Calgary native from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2015 NHL Draft and signed him to a one year, $1.25 million contract.
"Wow! My lifelong dream has come true!!" the 25-year-old forward said via his Twitter account after the deal and signing were announced. Galiardi also played his junior hockey with the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League.
Galiardi, 25, had five goals and nine assists in 36 games with the Sharks in 2012-13. He would have become a restricted free agent if he didn't sign a new contract by July. He has 39 goals and 87 points in 221 NHL games in five seasons with the Colorado Avalanche and San Jose Sharks.
Very happy that old guy finally scored. It was great. You see the excitement on his face. I remember when I scored my first goal and it's just such a great feeling. Anytime you can help contribute to a team win it's a lot of fun.
