The Calgary Flames acquired the Calgary native from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2015 NHL Draft and signed him to a one year, $1.25 million contract.
"Wow! My lifelong dream has come true!!" the 25-year-old forward said via his Twitter account after the deal and signing were announced. Galiardi also played his junior hockey with the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League.
Galiardi, 25, had five goals and nine assists in 36 games with the Sharks in 2012-13. He would have become a restricted free agent if he didn't sign a new contract by July. He has 39 goals and 87 points in 221 NHL games in five seasons with the Colorado Avalanche and San Jose Sharks.
When we started our journey we made a commitment to our fans to be relevant and to see the Chicago Blackhawks become the best professional hockey organization. There are not two finer symbols of that than Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane. The commitment we have made to these incredible young men is equal to the commitment they have made to our team, our fans, our entire organization and the city of Chicago.
