The Washington Capitals on Tuesday re-signed defenseman Tomas Kundratek to a two-year contract extension.

As a rookie, the 23-year-old had a goal and seven points in 25 games with the Capitals during the 2012-13 season.

The 6-foot-2, 195-pound defenseman also played in the American Hockey League for Hershey, where he led the team's blueliners in goals (16) and points (31). Kundratek was named to the AHL Eastern Conference team squad for the 2013 Dunkin' Donuts AHL All-Star Classic.

A third-round pick of the New York Rangers in the 2008 NHL Draft, Kundratek was acquired in a trade by the Capitals on Nov. 8, 2011.

Quote of the Day

I definitely think going back down helped me, I had a lot of confidence down there, I played a lot of minutes and I think that helped me a lot. With the 37 games up here, that gave me experience as well. I know what it takes to play in the NHL and now it's time for me to show that I'm capable of being a full-time NHL player.
