Flames continue rebuild by taking forwards Monahan, Poirier, Klimchuk at draft

NEWARK, N.J. - The Calgary Flames have selected centre Sean Monahan with the sixth pick in the NHL draft.

Monahan captained the Ottawa 67's of the Ontario Hockey League this past season, putting up 31 goals and 47 assists.

Flames general manager Jay Feaster said he'd welcome the opportunity to get bigger given the amount of smaller players in the organization, and Monahan fits the bill at six-foot-two and 187 pounds.

Calgary also has the 22nd and 28th picks in the first round.

Quote of the Day

We want to make sure that whoever makes our team really makes our team by earning it and not putting them in situations where they get preference because of their status as a first-round pick or whatever it might be. That's not going to happen. Everybody has to earn their way on our team.
