Poile named Team USA GM, Bylsma coach
David Poile named GM of the U.S.' entry at the 2014 Winter Olympics, and Dan Bylsma will serve as coach, USA Hockey announced Friday.

USA Hockey on Friday named David Poile of the Nashville Predators as general manager of the United States' entry at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, and Dan Bylsma of the Pittsburgh Penguins as the team's coach.

"We couldn't be more pleased than to have David as our general manager," Ron DeGregorio, president of USA Hockey, said. "He continues to have a remarkable management career in the National Hockey League and the vast experience and expertise he brings to the table will serve us well in our goal to bring the gold medal back to the United States."

Poile will have Penguins GM Ray Shero as his associate general manager and Anaheim Ducks consultant Brian Burke as director of player personnel.

"With David, Ray, Brian and Jim Johannson, our assistant executive director of hockey operations, we have a management team in place that has the wide array of experience necessary at the Olympic level," Dave Ogrean, executive director of USA Hockey, said. "It's an all-star cast that our country can feel very good about in leading Team USA into Sochi."

Burke was general manager of Team USA in 2010, when the Americans lost the gold-medal game against Canada in overtime. Poile was associate GM and Shero was on the committee of team executives who helped Burke pick the team.

The staff will be presented during a press conference Saturday in New York, the day before the 2013 NHL Draft is held at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. (3 p.m. ET; NBCSN, TSN)

USA Today previously reported that Bylsma had been chosen over Peter Laviolette of the Philadelphia Flyers, who coached the 2006 team, and John Tortorella, now the coach of the Vancouver Canucks, who was an assistant coach on Ron Wilson's staff in 2010. All three have led NHL teams to the Stanley Cup.
