Carolina Hurricanes sign forward Brett Sutter to one-year deal

RALIEGH, N.C. - The Carolina Hurricanes have signed forward Brett Sutter to a one-year, two-way contract.

The deal announced Tuesday will pay Sutter US$600,000 at the NHL level or $150,000 at the American Hockey League (AHL) level, with a guarantee of at least $250,000.

With 19 goals and 29 assists in 70 games in the AHL last season, the 26-year-old Sutter ranked second among the Charlotte Checkers in scoring.

Sutter has one goal and four assists in 37 career NHL games with the Calgary Flames and the Hurricanes.

In three games with Carolina last season, the Viking, Alta., native had zero points and four penalty minutes.

Quote of the Day

For our team, as a group, we've never been this far before, and so it's just more lessons learned, and sometimes you have to go to the school of hard knocks to find out what works and what doesn't. We've got a young group. They've played some unreal hockey here to get us this far, and we showed if we're not going to play the proper way, a really, really good hockey team is going to beat you, and that's what they did. It's a lesson learned.
