Report: Vigneault inks five-year deal to coach Rangers
Alain Vigneault reportedly has signed a five-year contract to take over as coach of the New York Rangers.

Alain Vigneault reportedly has signed a five-year contract to take over as coach of the New York Rangers.

Multiple media reports, including TSN's Darren Dreger, said Monday that the contract is worth $10 million. The New York Daily News reports that Vigneault will be introduced as the Rangers' new coach on Thursday.

Vigneault notified the Dallas Stars on Friday that he was withdrawing from consideration for their coaching position.

Vigneault guided the Vancouver Canucks to a berth in the 2010-11 Stanley Cup Final, led Vancouver to the Presidents' Trophy in 2010-11 and '11-12, and to six Northwest Division titles, including one this season. He was fired on May 22 after the Canucks were swept by the San Jose Sharks in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the second year in a row that Vancouver was upset in the opening round.

The 52-year-old posted a 313-170-57 regular-season record in seven seasons with Vancouver, but had a 33-32 record in the postseason.

The Rangers' coaching job opened when John Tortorella was fired on May 29 after New York lost in the second round of the playoffs to the Boston Bruins. Tortorella has had one interview with the Canucks, and the Vancouver Provence reports he will receive a second interview.
