NHL Senior Vice President of Player Safety and Hockey Operations Brendan Shanahan flew to Calgary on Friday to meet with Ken King, the Calgary Flames president and chief executive officer.
"Yes, I flew to Calgary [Friday] and had dinner with Ken King," Shanahan told Sportsnet. "Both parties ran it by Commissioner [Gary] Bettman. Purely just a conversation. Beyond that I'd rather not get into it or comment publicly."
Sportsnet's John Shannon is reporting the Flames could be looking to restructure their hockey operations department with the potential of adding Shanahan in a high-profile role. According to a report by TSN's Bob McKenzie, there was no offer made by the Flames to Shanahan.
Sportsnet also reported that the Flames are undertaking a review of their organization to determine what will need to be done to get the franchise contending again. The Flames have not made the Stanley Cup Playoffs since 2009.
