Stars sign Connauton to three-year contract

The Dallas Stars announced Thursday they have signed defenseman Kevin Connauton to a three-year contract through the 2015-16 season.

The first year is a two-way deal ($600,000 NHL; $100,000 AHL), while years two and three are each one-way ($650,000 in year two; $800,000 in year three).

Connauton, a third-round pick by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2009 NHL Draft, was acquired by Dallas along with a second-round pick in the 2013 draft from the Canucks in exchange for forward Derek Roy on April 2, 2013.

Last season, Connauton, 23, skated in 69 games for the Chicago Wolves and the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League, where he combined for nine goals and 31 points with 73 penalty minutes. He led the Texas Stars in playoff scoring with five points (two goals) in nine postseason games.

In 2012, Connauton was selected to the AHL All-Star Classic in Atlantic City and won the hardest-shot event at 99.4 mph at the AHL Skills Competition.
