New York Rangers defenseman Michael Del Zotto underwent successful surgery to repair a sports hernia, the team announced Thursday. The procedure was performed in Philadelphia and the expected recovery time is four weeks.
"Long morning in surgery. Finally get to leave," Del Zotto tweeted Thursday morning. "Wonderful nurses. Back in top shape in no time."
Del Zotto's tweet was accompanied by the hashtag #motivated.
New York's first-round pick in 2008, Del Zotto scored three goals and added 18 assists for 21 points in 46 games this season. In 2011-12, he established career highs in goals (10), assists (31), points (41), penalty minutes (36) and plus-minus (plus-20) in 77 games.
The Rangers announced two weeks ago that forwards Ryan Callahan and Carl Hagelin each underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum.
