Lundqvist: Shoulder injury is 'under control'
Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist said his left shoulder is sore after falling on it in Game 2 against the Bruins, but said he'll be fine and ready to play when the puck drops for Game 3.

GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- New York Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist attempted to put to rest any fear that an injury to his left shoulder is something that potentially could hurt his chances of playing in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Boston Bruins at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday (7:30 p.m. ET, NBCSN, TSN, RDS).

"It's under control," Lundqvist said after practice Monday. "I landed on the ice awkwardly and it hurt a little bit. It's under control."

Lundqvist appeared to hurt himself after extending his left arm to cover the puck just above the slot with 4:52 remaining in the third period of Game 2 at TD Garden on Sunday. He needed some extra time from the officials to gather himself and flex his arm a bit, but he stayed in the game and was on the ice for the entire practice Monday.

He indicated that he didn't even think about sitting out practice.

"Everybody is sore," Lundqvist said. "It's the playoffs; you can't just sit out if it's hurting a little bit. It happens and you just have to make sure you maintain and you do the right things to keep it good."

Lundqvist knows he has to be better in Game 3 if the Rangers want any chance of climbing back into the series. While he wasn't necessarily critical of his play, he understands that he can't sugarcoat giving up five goals on 32 shots in Game 2.

"It's disappointing to give up five goals, but also positioning-wise and reading the plays, for the most part it was good," Lundqvist said. "They made some good plays, too. And then there were some unlucky bounces and screens. I could probably find excuses for the goals, but it's not going to help my game. I just have to try to be better and work even harder to see pucks."

Seeing pucks was difficult for Lundqvist on Sunday in part because the Rangers were not as good in front of him as they usually are, especially off the rush.

Torey Krug shot through screens set by Rangers defenseman Dan Girardi and Bruins center David Krejci to give Boston a 1-0 lead in the first period. Gregory Campbell scored 2:24 into the second period with a backhand from the slot after Krug's shot hit off Girardi's skate and went right to him.

Johnny Boychuk netted the game-winner 12:08 into the second period with Patrice Bergeron in the slot, in front of both Lundqvist and Girardi.

Brad Marchand scored on a re-direct from the slot 26 seconds into the third period after he gained inside position on Girardi and Bergeron found him with a perfect pass off the right side. Milan Lucic scored from the right post after Girardi basically slid through the slot and behind the goal line, out of position.

Girardi was on the ice for all five goals-against. His defense partner in Game 2, Michael Del Zotto, was on the ice for four of them.

"Some of the mistakes we made [in Game 2], it was surprising and a lot of it was off the rush, but I think that can be fixed because I think that's one of the strengths of our game," Rangers coach John Tortorella said. "That's why I'm very encouraged. I think we're going to be OK here."

Nobody in the Rangers' dressing room doubts Lundqvist's ability to bounce back. He's done it throughout his entire career and it's why he's become one of the best goalies in the NHL, a Vezina Trophy winner last season and one of three finalists this season.

However, Lundqvist did admit that after two games he knows there are things he must do against the Bruins to counter the way they play and try to score.

"There's a few things that I have to remember playing Boston, but also you need to get some good bounces, too," Lundqvist said. "And a lot of times you earn them by working hard and making really good decisions out there. That's what I have to do."
