Hartford Wolf Pack returns to AHL
The New York Rangers' American Hockey League affiliate will be renamed the Hartford Wolf Pack for the 2013-14 season.

The New York Rangers' top farm team will be renamed the Hartford Wolf Pack for the 2013-14 season, reverting to the name the franchise used from 1997-2010. Madison Square Garden, which owns the team, and Global Spectrum, the new operators of the team and the XL Center, made the announcement Tuesday.

The Wolf Pack was renamed the Connecticut Whale in 2010 when Whalers Sports & Entertainment rebranded the franchise after taking over the day-to-day management. The Wolf Pack will remain as the Rangers' American Hockey League affiliate.

"The return to the Hartford Wolf Pack name signifies a return to the roots of this franchise, emphasizing the ties that this team has to the Hartford community," Rangers assistant general manager Jim Schoenfeld said. "It celebrates the winning tradition of the franchise and focuses on the qualities of teamwork and loyalty."

Global Spectrum named Chris Lawrence as GM of the Wolf Pack and XL Center, as well as the University of Connecticut's Rentschler Field. Before arriving in Hartford, Lawrence was GM of the Glens Falls Civic Center, home of the Adirondack Phantoms, the Philadelphia Flyers' top farm team.

Quote of the Day

He is, in my opinion, one of the best defensemen in the NHL and continuing to grow. I think his game, from an offensive standpoint, he continues to drive our offense... I think there's still tremendous upside for Oliver.
