LONDON, Ont. - The London Knights staved off elimination, getting two goals from Bo Horvat in a 6-4 win over Barrie on Friday, to trim the Colts lead in the Ontario Hockey League final to 3-2.
Horvat's power play marker at 16:59 of the second period gave London a 4-1 lead.
He also scored a short-handed goal in the third, stealing the puck from Mark Scheifele, and then going in on a breakaway to beat Mathias Neiederberger to make it 5-2.
The Knights led 1-0 after the first period and 4-1 after two.
London goalie Jake Patterson made his first start of the playoffs and stopped 25 shots. Patterson's only playoff time was 35 minutes in relief of Anthony Stolarz in a 6-2 loss to Kitchener on April 8th.
Niederberger stopped 28 of 34 shots for the Colts, and was replaced at 10:48 of the third period when Welychka's goal gave the Knights a 6-3 lead.
Until then, Niederberger had played every playoff minute for the Colts at 1,213.
His replacement, Alex Fotinos, stopped all three shots he saw.
London was 1 for 6 on the power play, while Barrie was 0 for 3.
