Abdelkader faces hearing following hit on Lydman
Detroit F Justin Abdelkader will have a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety Sunday for a hit on Anaheim's Toni Lydman Saturday.

Detroit Red Wings forward Justin Abdelkader will have a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety on Sunday afternoon for a hit on Toni Lydman of the Anaheim Ducks in Game 3 of the Western Conference Quarterfinal series on Saturday night at Joe Louis Arena.

Abdelkader received a five-minute major for charging and a game misconduct for the hit, which occurred as Lydman was playing the puck in his own zone at 15:11 of the second period. Lydman left the game and did not return.

The following grounds are being considered for supplemental discipline: charging. However, the Department of Player Safety retains the right to make adjustments to the infraction upon review.

Anaheim won the game, 4-0, to take a 2-1 lead in the series. Game 4 is Monday in Detroit.
