Acton scores in OT to help Marlies advance past Americans in AHL playoffs

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Will Acton scored in overtime to send the Toronto Marlies into the next round of the American Hockey League playoffs with a 3-2 win over the Rochester Americans on Wednesday.

Acton tipped in a Kevin Marshall point shot to beat Americans goaltender David Leggio 5:14 into OT, helping Toronto win the best-of-five series 3-0.

The Marlies have to wait to find out who they play next — they're the first team to move into the second round.

Greg Scott, with a short-handed goal, and Greg McKegg both scored for the Marlies in the second period. Drew MacIntyre meanwhile made 37 saves.

Zemgus Girgensons scored for Rochester while Nick Tarnasky forced extra time with a goal at 15:57 in the third.

Leggio finished with 27 saves.
