Jiri Tlusty scores twice to lead Hurricanes to 3-2 win over Lightning

TAMPA, Fla. - Jiri Tlusty scored two first-period goals and Dan Ellis stopped 34 shots to lead the Carolina Hurricanes to a 3-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday night.

Alexander Semin scored 16 seconds into the game for the Hurricanes, who jumped ahead 3-0 and held on for their first victory against the Lightning this season. Semin took a feed in the slot from Eric Staal and whipped it over the shoulder of Lightning goalie Andres Lindback. Semin also had assists on both of Tlusty's goals.

Steven Stamkos and Martin St. Louis scored for the Lightning, who lost their sixth straight game.

Ellis turned away 15 of 16 shots in the third period, including point-blank opportunities by Eric Brewer, Ryan Malone and B.J. Crombeen.

Quote of the Day

He's, believe it or not, actually one of my favorite guys, and I've ended up trading him twice. I appreciate what he's done. He was one year away from being an unrestricted free agent, and I felt with this opportunity, that it was a chance that we were able to get somebody for him in Nick Bonino and Adam Clendening.
