Carruth 27 saves, Leipsic and Rattie three points each as Winterhawks take 2-0 series lead

PORTLAND, Ore. - Mac Carruth earned his third shutout of the post-season as the Portland Winterhawks blanked the visiting Kamloops Blazers 4-0 on Saturday in Western Hockey League playoff action.

The 20-year-old goaltender stopped 27 shots for Portland, which has a 2-0 series lead in the best-of-seven Western Conference final, and hasn't allowed a goal against in 117:50.

Carruth also became the new leader for games played in the post-season by a goaltender with 66. Former Red Deer Rebels netminder Cam Ward held the previous record of 65.

Brendan Leipsic and Ty Rattie each had a goal and two assists for the Blazers, who have outscored Kamloops 8-1 in the series, while Derrick Pouliot chipped in with two assists.

Rattie leads the WHL in post-season scoring with 13 goals and 25 points in 12 contests.

Seth Jones and Nicolas Petan rounded out Portland's offence with a goal apiece.

Cole Cheveldave made 30 saves for the Blazers, who fell to 4-3-0 on the road.

Jones opened the scoring at 15:31 of the first with a wrap-around goal off an end-to-end rush.

Rattie scored from a tough angle with 3:52 left in the second period to put Portland up 2-0 through 40 minutes.

The Winterhawks then scored a pair of power-play goals in the third period to put the game out of reach.

Petan scored 45 seconds into the period to make it 3-0, then Leipsic rounded out the scoring at 10:01.

Portland went 2 for 8 on the power play while Kamloops failed to score on five chances with the man advantage.

The Blazers will host Game 3 on Tuesday at the Interior Savings Centre.
