Rivalries highlight NHL Network's weekend schedule
With each NHL game growing in importance with every passing day, the NHL Network will showcase some of the League's greatest rivalries over the course of a full slate of weekend games.

With each NHL game growing in importance with every passing day, the NHL Network will showcase some of the League's greatest rivalries over the course of a full slate of weekend games.

It all starts Thursday when the defending Stanley Cup champions look to establish themselves in the Western Conference standings in their quest to repeat. The Los Angeles Kings' journey to the Stanley Cup Playoffs continues on the NHL Network when they play host to the Colorado Avalanche at 10:30 p.m. ET in a matchup that kicks off an exciting weekend of crucial games.

An exciting NHL Network showdown will be played Friday when the high-flying Chicago Blackhawks host an Original Six matchup against the Detroit Red Wings. With Chicago looking to down its historic rival, Detroit will need to win if it wants to ensure its incredible run of 21 straight postseason appearances doesn't suddenly end. Puck drops at 8:30 p.m. ET.

A great weekend of hockey culminates in a Saturday doubleheader featuring two of the NHL's greatest rivalries. It starts at 7 p.m. ET when the Toronto Maple Leafs welcome the Montreal Canadiens to Air Canada Centre. Then, at 11 p.m. ET, the Kings wrap up an eventful day of hockey with a matchup against their crosstown rivals, the Anaheim Ducks.

With history, bragging rights and playoff implications all at play, these four games in three nights should provide plenty of action for hockey fans everywhere.
