Petan with two points as Winterhawks beat Chiefs for 3-0 series lead

SPOKANE, Wash. - Nicolas Petan scored once and added an assist as the Portland Winterhawks downed the host Spokane Chiefs 3-1 on Tuesday in Western Hockey League playoff action.

Petan's scored the eventual winner at 8:01 of the second period for Portland, which leads the best-of-seven second-round matchup 3-0.

Ty Rattie and Taylor Leier also scored for the Winterhawks, who have outscored Spokane 13-3 in the series, and Mac Carruth made 25 saves for the win.

Blake Gal scored for the Chiefs, who only have one goal in the last 157:37 against Portland dating back to Game 1, while Eric Williams turned away 33-of-35 shots in defeat.

Portland went 0 for 3 on the power play while Spokane scored once on four chances with the man advantage.

The Chiefs will look to avoid elimination on Wednesday when they host Game 4 at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena.
