Referee Brad Meier leaves Flames-Avalanche game after being hit in left knee by puck

DENVER - Referee Brad Meier was helped off the ice after taking a shot in the left knee early in the third period of the game between the Calgary Flames and Colorado Avalanche.

Colorado defenceman Jan Hejda was attempting a clearing pass behind the Avalanche net. Instead he caught Meier, who was stationed along the boards at 4:17 of the period on Monday night.

Meier was holding his knee as he left the ice for the Colorado dressing room. The extent of the injury was not revealed.

Quote of the Day

I remember the first time at Wrigley Field all of us had the long johns, the turtlenecks and the extra equipment because we were afraid of being cold. Halfway through the first period everybody's ripping everything off and we just ended up wearing what we would normally wear for a game at the United Center.
