DENVER - Referee Brad Meier was helped off the ice after taking a shot in the left knee early in the third period of the game between the Calgary Flames and Colorado Avalanche.
Colorado defenceman Jan Hejda was attempting a clearing pass behind the Avalanche net. Instead he caught Meier, who was stationed along the boards at 4:17 of the period on Monday night.
Meier was holding his knee as he left the ice for the Colorado dressing room. The extent of the injury was not revealed.
