Mitchell Theoret has found a little something extra in his game for what could be his last attempt at winning a J. Ross Robertson Cup.

The fourth-year forward scored three times on Friday as the Barrie Colts defeated the visiting Oshawa Generals 4-1 in Ontario Hockey League playoff action.

Theoret, who scored seven goals in 25 games with Barrie after they acquired him at the January trade deadline from the Niagara IceDogs, now has eight goals in six playoff games, which leads all OHL skaters.

Prior to this post-season, the 19-year-old had only six goals in 36 playoff appearances with Niagara.

Andreas Athanasiou scored once and tacked on two assists for the Colts, who lead the Eastern Conference second-round series 2-0, while Mark Scheifele picked up an assist to extend his point streak to six games.

Despite extending his point streak, Scheifele failed to score a goal for the first time this post-season.

Scott Laughton scored the lone goal for the Generals and also picked up a five-minute major for checking-from-behind late in the third period as his club trailed by two goals.

Mathias Niederberger made 29 saves for the win as Daniel Altshuller turned away 40-of-43 shots in defeat.

Barrie went 1 for 3 on the power play while Oshawa failed to score on five chances with the man advantage.

The Generals will host Game 3 on Sunday at the General Motors Centre.

Elsewhere in the OHL, it was: Plymouth 4, Owen Sound 1; London 4, Kitchener 1 and Belleville 6, Sudbury 3.

At Barrie, Ont., after a scoreless first period, laughton opened the scoring 12:32 into the second period to give the Generals a 1-0 lead.

Oshawa's lead didn't last long though as Theoret responded for the Colts only 46 seconds later.

Theoret and Athanasiou then scored 1:02 apart to give Barrie a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes of play.

The Generals could only muster five shots against Altshuller in the third period and Theoret completed his hat trick into an empty net at 19:15 while on the power play.

Whalers 4 Attack 1

At Plymouth, Mich., Sebastian Uvira scored twice and Alex Nedeljkovic turned away 22-of-23 shots as the Whalers took Game 1 of their Western Conference second-round matchup against Owen Sound.

---

Knights 4 Rangers 1

At London, Ont., Anthony Stolarz made 29 saves and Ryan Rupert had a goal and an assist as the Knights defeated Kitchener to go ahead 1-0 in their Western Conference second-round series.

---

Bulls 6 Wolves 3

At Belleville, Ont., Tyler Graovac and Carter Sandlak each had a goal and an assist and Malcolm Subban turned away 29 shots as the Bulls opened their second-round series with a win over Sudbury.

I didn't think it would actually work, but it ended up working, so I'm thanking my lucky stars tonight.
