The Los Angeles Kings have signed defenseman Derek Forbort, their first-round choice in the 2010 NHL Draft, to a three-year entry-level contract.
Forbort, a 6-foot-5, 207-pound native of Duluth, Minn., was the 15th player taken in the 2010 draft. He spent the past three seasons playing for the University of North Dakota. He had four goals and 17 points in 42 games this season for North Dakota, which was eliminated in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last weekend.
Forbort also earned a bronze medal with Team USA at the 2011 World Junior Championship and a gold medal at the 2010 world Under-18 championship.
