Flyers make change in net, acquire G Mason from Blue Jackets for G Leighton

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Flyers acquired Steve Mason from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for Michael Leighton in a deal of backup goalies.

Mason was stuck behind Sergei Bobrovsky in Columbus and was 3-6-1 with a 2.95 goals-against average and a .899 save percentage. In 232 games over five seasons with the Blue Jackets, Mason has a record of 96-99-27 with a 2.90 GAA, .903 save percentage and 19 shutouts. He'll back up Ilya Bryzgalov in Philadelphia.

Leighton barely played for the Flyers after he helped lead them to the Stanley Cup finals in 2010. He appeared in one game for the Flyers this season and only 29 over the past three seasons, going 17-6-3. He allowed the winning goal in a Game 6 overtime loss to Chicago that gave the Blackhawks the Cup.

The Flyers also claimed centre Adam Hall off waivers from Tampa Bay and recalled goalie Cal Heeter from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms.

Quote of the Day

It's about enjoying the moment. It's pretty cool to get that many people together and that excited about hockey to the point they really want you to mess up. They've got a ton of red jerseys and you have to sit back and appreciate people love hockey that much and you are the one out there who gets to play the game. Just try and stick with that respect for the game and also the mentality that for me it's just about entering the fight and seeing how long I can stay in it.
