Luongo looking forward to focusing on hockey now that trade deadline has passed

VANCOUVER - Vancouver goaltender Roberto Luongo has weighed in with some blunt talk about what he thought was the stumbling block in potential trade discussions.

The NHL trade deadline passed this afternoon and the Canucks did not move the veteran netminder despite months of rumours that he was on the block.

Luongo was asked for his thoughts on what might have prevented a deal, and replied that his contract "sucks," adding it's a big factor in any potential move and is probably why he's still in Vancouver.

Luongo, who has a no-trade clause in his deal, has 10 years remaining on a 12-year contract that's worth $64 million dollars US.

The former regular starter has seen limited action since being supplanted by Cory Schneider in last year's playoffs.

Luongo, a three-time Vezina Trophy finalist, says he's looking forward to focusing on hockey now that the deadline has passed.
