The Winnipeg Jets announced Tuesday they have agreed to contract terms with defenseman Jacob Trouba, their first-round pick in the 2012 NHL Draft.

Trouba, 19, played in 37 games with the University of Michigan during the 2012-13 season, scoring 12 goals and finishing with 29 points, along with 88 penalty minutes. The native of Rochester, Mich., was named to the 2013 CCHA All-Rookie Team and was chosen as the league's best offensive defenseman.

The ninth player taken in the draft last June also led Team USA to the gold medal at the World Junior Championships in Ufa, Russia, in January. Trouba also took home a gold medal at the 2011 World Junior Ice Hockey Under-18 Championships and a silver medal in the 2010 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

Quote of the Day

That was something I've been dreaming of, something I've told myself before the third period I was going to do ... It was an amazing feeling. It's hard to describe. I didn't believe it went in at first but when I saw all the reaction and all the fans going crazy and my teammates going crazy, it's just an unbelievable feeling. I didn't know what to do. I didn't know whether to jump or just skate and do a Theo Fleury. I don't think I'm the same caliber player he is so I couldn't do it.
