EVERETT, Wash. - The top team in the Western Hockey League is headed to the second round of the playoffs after the Portland Winterhawks defeated the Everett Silvertips 5-1 Monday night in Game 6 of their series.
Oliver Bjorkstrand had two goals and two assists for top-seeded Portland, which won the series against eighth-seeded Everett 4-2.
Bjorkstrand snapped a 1-1 tie late in the first period when he put in a rebound on the rush, sending the Winterhawks on their way.
Seth Jones also scored twice and Taylor Leier had the other goal for Portland, which dominated play and outshot Everett 52-13. Mac Carruth earned the win in goal with 12 saves.
Reid Petryk scored the lone goal for Everett. Austin Lotz made 47 saves for the Silvertips.
Life's about opportunity and how you respond to that opportunity, and obviously he must have some swagger about him, some confidence about him, because he was solid. He made some good saves. He was 6-foot-3 on every shot, which is a good thing for a goalie. He played well. We got a win.
