Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren made the announcement Saturday before the team played the Boston Bruins.

Detroit will receive Philadelphia's seventh-round selection in 2014 if Philadelphia signs Huskins to a 2013-14 contract prior to Oct. 1.

Huskins is in his seventh NHL season, his first with the Red Wings. He has appeared in 11 games, going scoreless with an average of 15:20 of ice time.

The 6-foot-4, 210-pound defenseman from Almonte, Ontario has played 310 NHL games, recording 67 points (13 goals) and 173 penalty minutes.

Quote of the Day

Life's about opportunity and how you respond to that opportunity, and obviously he must have some swagger about him, some confidence about him, because he was solid. He made some good saves. He was 6-foot-3 on every shot, which is a good thing for a goalie. He played well. We got a win.
