College defenseman DeKeyser signs with Red Wings
Defenseman Dan DeKeyser will sign with the Detroit Red Wings, TSN's Bob McKenzie reported Friday on Twitter.

Defenseman Dan DeKeyser has signed with the Detroit Red Wings, the team announced Friday on Twitter.

DeKeyser, a 23-year-old from Western Michigan University, signed a two-year contract and will practice with the Red Wings on Saturday.

"We're happy. You're always looking for defensemen, and this guy is rangy, mobile," Red Wings general manager Ken Holland told the Detroit Free Press.

Holland said DeKeyser will not play Sunday or Monday.

A Detroit native, DeKeyser was considered the consensus top undrafted college free agent available this season. He visited with multiple NHL teams since his college season ended. He had 15 points with Western Michigan the past two seasons.

"He's 6-foot-3, he's got great mobility, and he's got a very nice defensive presence," Nashville Predators assistant general manager Paul Fenton told The Tennessean on Thursday. "He uses his size, his reach, his mobility to fend guys off. He's a guy that's going to stop you defensively and he can make a first pass, so he's the kind of defenseman that we are attracted to here."

The Predators were in the running to sign DeKeyser, along with the Anaheim Ducks, Edmonton Oilers and St. Louis Blues, according to TSN's Bob McKenzie.
