Reigning NHL MVP Evgeni Malkin returns from upper-body injury for Penguins

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The news keeps getting better for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Reigning NHL MVP Evgeni Malkin returned to the lineup Thursday night against Winnipeg after missing nine games with an upper-body injury. The team activated Malkin less than a day after acquiring Calgary captain Jarome Iginla in a blockbuster trade.

To make room for Malkin, the Penguins sent rookie winger Beau Bennett to Wilkes Barre-Scranton of the AHL.

Malkin has five goals and 19 assists in 24 games this season. He sat out four games earlier this season because of a concussion.

Pittsburgh's No. 1 goaltender, Marc-Andre Fleury, was scratched from the lineup while recovering from a collision in a 1-0 win victory over Montreal on Tuesday night. Tomas Vokoun started against the Jets, with Jeff Zatkoff called up from the AHL to serve as a backup.
