Petan with four points as Winterhawks take 2-1 series lead against Silvertips

EVERETT, Wash. - Nicolas Petan scored twice and set up two more as the Portland Winterhawks defeated the host Everett Silvertips 7-3 on Wednesday in Western Hockey League playoff action.

The victory gives Portland a 2-1 series lead in its Western Conference first-round matchup.

Brendan Leipsic and Derrick Pouliot had a goal and two assists apiece for the Winterhawks while Troy Rutkowski, Ty Rattie and Oliver Bjorkstrand each scored once.

Dawson Leedahl scored two goals for the Silvertips and Joshua Winquist had a goal and an assist.

Mac Carruth only had to make 10 saves for the win as Austin Lotz picked up the loss after allowing five goals on 24 shots through two periods of play. Daniel Cotton replaced Lotz to start the third and stopped 4-of-6 shots in relief.

Portland went 3 for 5 on the power play while Everett failed to score on three chances with the man advantage.

Game 4 is set for Friday when the Silvertips host the Winterhawks at Comcast Arena.
