EVERETT, Wash. - Nicolas Petan scored twice and set up two more as the Portland Winterhawks defeated the host Everett Silvertips 7-3 on Wednesday in Western Hockey League playoff action.

The victory gives Portland a 2-1 series lead in its Western Conference first-round matchup.

Dawson Leedahl scored two goals for the Silvertips and Joshua Winquist had a goal and an assist.

Mac Carruth only had to make 10 saves for the win as Austin Lotz picked up the loss after allowing five goals on 24 shots through two periods of play. Daniel Cotton replaced Lotz to start the third and stopped 4-of-6 shots in relief.

Portland went 3 for 5 on the power play while Everett failed to score on three chances with the man advantage.

Game 4 is set for Friday when the Silvertips host the Winterhawks at Comcast Arena.

Quote of the Day

Obviously a lot happened in a short period of time. At the end of the day, considering everything I went through, I really felt close to my teammates and I really feel like what we accomplished, I know we didn't win it all. ... I'm really proud of how we got there and what we did once we got there.
